This weeks reading list is more of a stuff list. What’s bad about the chance to vote on the 10 greatest rock Riffs of all time? Other than they have obviously left out a few of my favorites. Even so: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/article3809123.ece
Sometimes a different way of looking at the same facts helps you learn something about yourself. http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2008/mayweb-only/119-31.0.html This short editorial about Rev. Jeremiah Wright made me think about the whole debacle again. Plus, to see him as a brother in Christ.
So, a modern day evangelical manifesto. http://www.anevangelicalmanifesto.com/ This is about 20 pages that describe the evangelical mission. It is worth a read maybe especially the summary. It relates our theological beliefs about Jesus to our action in the political world of citizens. For that we can be thankful.
Of course this is not a new phenomenon, in 1560 the Scots gathered together and described their mission post reformation. This mission resulted in the establishment of the Parish School teaching all to read and write, and the beginnings of rudimentary social services including the earliest ever unemployment benefits (which of course did not extend to the idle poor). First, of course, they laid out their creed. http://www.crivoice.org/creedscots.html And below, this is what they specifically said out God. Personally I don’t think we - i.e. the church universal - have bettered this.
We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve, whom alone we must worship, and in whom alone we must put our trust; who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; one in substance and yet distinct in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; by whom we confess and believe all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible to have been created, to be retained in their being, and to be ruled and guided by his inscrutable providence for such end as his eternal wisdom, goodness, and justice have appointed, and to the manifestation of his own glory.
Not sure, but I think Frank will like this post at the evangelical outpost (which I can highly recommend - just google it). http://www.evangelicaloutpost.com/archives/2008/05/make-your-messa.html
Enjoy!
