So this is my first post in the world of blogging. Let’s start out with a few observations on what you are likely to read here and what in my view blogging is all about. I will make three observations about blogging and why blog.
First, there is an inevitable narcissism in blogging - let’s face it I am writing making the wild assumption that you are interested in what I say. Anyone who has ever listened to me talk knows that at best there is one word in ten worth hearing. Maybe my blogs will be better and perhaps if you add a few thoughts you can help me with that.
Second, there is also in blogging a dynamic between the lonely world of one guy and a keyboard and a world where literally millions have access to what you say and what you think. It takes a few moments to get one’s head around that. Yet the thought of a community of people sharing their journey seems very Christian to me and makes blogging, sharing what I think, somehow attractive. In the end though, at least for me, this is not about the millions it is more about the man. This blog is about keeping me connected to the community that I am a part of in Crosspoint Community Church.
Which leads to my third observation, blogging when done well reflects the diversity and complexity of real life. I appreciate there are “themed” blogs but the blogs I enjoy are the more eclectic and observational blogs that just take you on a journey through the observations of the writer. If you are wise you will probably understand that what I am really saying here is that I have no idea what I will post about. And so much the better.
That said you can expect a few themes to come through driven by my current situation. I live in London while my family lives in Houston. I also travel extensively across Europe and into Russia. It would be fair to expect therefore much of that to come through in what I post. I am a Christian of course so expect that to permeate what I write too. Beyond that however I have no idea what the heck I will talk about.
I you find a theme let me know. Also, ask a few questions. I respond well to prodding (at least that is what my wife will tell you).
