He was not only a General in the War for Independence, but he was President during the government under the Articles of Confederation--the 9th "President of the United States in Congress Assembled." He was so concerned that the new Constitution would erode liberty that he considered renouncing his citizenship. But that is probably because I am missing something. I am also going to be able to vote soon and plan to exercise this privelage.
